Compare the free business-portal route with connector apps from USD 5 a month and pick by parcels per week." date: 2026-10-05 lastUpdated: 2026-10-05 author: "Lukas Brunner" url: https://swissecomguides.com/swiss-post-shopify-shipping/ site: "Swiss Ecom Guides (swissecomguides.com)" language: en --- # Swiss Post shipping from Shopify: two routes, one rule ![](https://swissecomguides.com/images/swiss-post-shopify-shipping-cover-1200.webp) > **The short version:** Shopify has no Swiss Post button. Every Swiss store reaches Swiss Post one of two ways. The free route runs through Swiss Post's business customer portal: you create the label, then paste the tracking number into the Shopify order yourself. The paid route is a connector app, the Official Swiss Post App. It builds the label and writes the tracking number back automatically. It starts at USD 5 a month with 10 free label prints ([Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/official-swiss-post-app), checked on 12 September 2026). The rule is parcels per week: below roughly ten, the portal costs nothing but a couple of minutes each; above it, the subscription beats your time. Postage is identical either way. From 1 January 2026, an Economy parcel up to 2 kg costs CHF 9.00. Printing online still earns the CHF 1.50 discount per parcel (Swiss Post, 2026). > **What we measured:** We read the 14 ranking pages for this search in full and compared what each tells a Swiss seller to do. Across the 14, connector and tool prices mentioned run from about USD 5 to USD 150 a month, with a median around USD 15 in our comparison. Most pages stop at listing apps; few spell out the paste-the-tracking-number route or the customs retyping a connector removes. It could be wrong in plain ways: a page we could not read, or app prices changed after our snapshot, would shift that band. Swiss Post is unavoidable. The federal carrier, founded in 1849, now runs with around 44,000 employees (Swiss Post, 2026; Swiss Post's history pages). When a Swiss customer orders, that network delivers. Disclosure: the Shopify links in this guide are affiliate links. Sign up through one and this site receives a commission; the price you pay does not change. We earn a commission if you sign up through one, and you pay the same price as you would otherwise. If you are still choosing the platform, [Shopify's Swiss site](https://www.shopify.com/ch/en) is the front door. Our [Shopify Switzerland: set up your store](https://swissecomguides.com/shopify-switzerland-setup-guide/) guide covers the account, payments and MWST basics. Neither page connects you to Swiss Post. That link you build yourself, one of two ways, and your weekly parcel count picks the way. You will stop quickly. Shopify does not offer Swiss Post as a built-in label carrier, so there is no switch to flip, and the shipping settings stop at zones and rates. The proof sits one click away. An app called the [Official Swiss Post App](https://apps.shopify.com/official-swiss-post-app) exists precisely because the direct connection does not (Shopify App Store, checked on 12 September 2026). Keep the division of labour straight. Shopify holds the order, the address and the payment. Swiss Post holds the network that collects, sorts and delivers. Between them sits one gap: the label and its tracking number. Your structural choice is who bridges that gap, a person or a subscription. ## Two routes to a Swiss Post label from Shopify Every Swiss Shopify store picks between the same two routes, and parcels per week is the number that decides it. The table sets them out. The last two rows are our judgment, not sourced figures. | Route | Who creates the label | Where the tracking number goes | Cost model | Sensible default (ours) | Weakest point (ours) | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Business customer portal | You, in Swiss Post's portal | You paste it into the Shopify order | Free tool; postage per parcel | Up to about 10 parcels a week | Retyping every order by hand | | Connector app | The app, from the order data | Written back automatically | Subscription; postage per parcel | Above about 10 parcels a week | Paying before volume justifies it | Our suggested parcels-per-week checklist: - Count one normal week's outbound parcels. Not your best week. - Up to 10: stay on the portal. The tool is free and postage is identical. - Creeping past 10: watch where the pasting happens. Friday evenings are a warning sign. - Settled above 10: trial the connector and compare one month of saved minutes against its fee. Whichever route you take, buy the postage online. The CHF 1.50 online discount applies to the label either way; what changes is only who presses the button. > **Our take:** Below ten parcels a week we would not pay a subscription; two minutes of typing per order is the cheapest labour in the building. Above that line, our call is the connector, because the fee stops mattering exactly where retyping compounds into Friday-evening admin. If your volume swings, start free and switch the month the paste step costs you an evening. ## Print the label in the business portal For a store under about ten parcels a week, the deciding number is zero. The portal charges nothing to create a label, and the postage is what anyone pays. Swiss Post does state that its digital interfaces require a billing relationship with Swiss Post (Swiss Post, 2025), so the business customer account comes first. The steps, in the order they happen: 1. Open a Swiss Post business customer account and settle the billing relationship. 2. Enter the recipient and parcel details from the Shopify order into the portal. 3. Buy the label online to keep the discount, then print it. 4. Add the customs declaration for anything leaving Switzerland. 5. Copy the tracking number into the Shopify order and mark it fulfilled. 6. Drop the parcel at a branch or book a pickup. Price the postage itself, whatever the route. From 1 January 2026, an Economy parcel up to 2 kg costs CHF 9.00, up from CHF 8.50. An international item up to 100 g to Europe costs CHF 4.50, up from CHF 4.00 ([Swiss Post, 2026](https://www.post.ch/en/business-solutions/digital-commerce/digital-commerce-api/api-interface-shipping-options)). Frank online and Swiss Post takes CHF 1.50 off per parcel. This is temporarily CHF 2.00 for Economy in the first half of 2026. That puts the Economy parcel at CHF 7.00 for now. In the Reddit threads we read, sellers put it plainly: "I usually print my own label at home... It is even cheaper online and pickup is free." ## What the connector app actually costs For a store past about ten parcels a week, the deciding number is the subscription set against your own minutes. The obvious candidate is the [Official Swiss Post App](https://apps.shopify.com/official-swiss-post-app) in the Shopify App Store, launched on 21 December 2020 and developed by not bad eh? LTD of Gibraltar, with the admin available in German, English, French and Italian (Shopify App Store, checked on 12 September 2026). Pricing per the same listing: Starter, USD 5 a month with 10 free label prints; Basic, USD 9 with 25 prints. Advanced, USD 15 with 100; Premium, USD 25 with unlimited prints. Run your own division. At 50 parcels a month, Advanced prints all of them for USD 15. Meanwhile, the portal route costs roughly a hundred minutes of retyping at two minutes a parcel. One honesty note. The app carries an overall rating of 3.5 from 23 reviews. A record that thin earns a read of the recent reviews before you subscribe, not after. A fourth road exists, technically. Swiss Post's [Shipping options API](https://www.post.ch/en/business-solutions/digital-commerce/digital-commerce-api/api-interface-shipping-options) is free of charge, and the investment is connecting it to your system (Swiss Post, 2025). That road only pays with in-house development, which rules out most first stores. The subscription joins your fixed stack either way; our [year-one cost breakdown](https://swissecomguides.com/swiss-shopify-store-first-year-cost/) shows where lines like this land. ## After the label prints: handover, tracking and returns Neither route touches the physical step. The parcel still goes to a branch or waits for pickup. From that moment it rides one network: Swiss Post delivered 185 million parcels in 2023, a routine year at this scale (Swiss Post, 2023). In the threads we read, small sellers echo what the volume suggests: "the post is the cheapest, most simple and most reliable compared to private carriers." Tracking works the same from either route, provided the number sits in the Shopify order before you mark it fulfilled. That is the paste step's whole point. Returns simply make the choice recur: whoever made the outbound label makes the return one, in the portal or the app. ## Where the app earns its fee: the customs border The border is where retyping stops being cheap. Every parcel leaving Switzerland needs a customs declaration on top of the label. In the threads, we read the refrain: "you will need to fill the form everytime you send something out of Switzerland." In the portal, that means recipient, contents and value again, per order. A connector reads them from the Shopify order and writes them once. The EU side has its own arithmetic now. The EU scrapped its EUR 22 low-value import exemption, and its Import One Stop Shop covers low-value consignments up to EUR 150 (European Commission, 2021). Someone pays VAT at that border, so decide whether it is you or your customer before the first EU order ships. Our [customs and duties on parcels leaving Switzerland](https://swissecomguides.com/customs-on-swiss-parcels/) guide takes the declaration apart, and [selling into the EU from a Swiss Shopify store](https://swissecomguides.com/selling-to-eu-from-switzerland/) covers the VAT decision. ## Frequently asked questions ### Can I pay for Swiss Post labels with a card or TWINT? For labels printed online, some users in the threads mentioned using credit cards or TWINT. A business customer account works differently: Swiss Post bills it, which is why the digital interfaces require a billing relationship (Swiss Post, 2025). At the counter, card acceptance varies, so carry a fallback. ### Does the Official Swiss Post App print international labels with customs data? The listing documents its plans and print volumes; it is not explicit, in the material we checked on 12 September 2026, about the customs workflow for EU-bound labels. Test one EU order during the trial before you rely on it. If customs data does not carry over, the app saves you typing on domestic orders only. ### Why did my EU customer pay extra at delivery? Since the EU removed its EUR 22 low-value exemption, VAT applies from the first euro on posted goods (European Commission, 2021). The carrier collects it from the recipient and adds a handling fee. Note that the CHF 150 limit often quoted for airport shopping applies to travellers, not parcels (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security FOCBS/BAZG, 2025). Shipping with duties paid moves the charge to you instead. ### At how many parcels does the app pay for itself? Take 25 parcels a month. Basic covers all 25 prints for USD 9; franking the same 25 at the counter would forfeit 25 × CHF 1.50, or CHF 37.50, in online discounts. Against the free portal the comparison is your time instead, so the honest break-even sits where minutes start mattering to you, typically above ten parcels a week. ## Sources 1.
